The Art of Lampwork
Bead Making: with
Kellene Richetts-Nguyen

Kellene will be giving a talk and demonstration on bead making using a hothead
torch. Be a part of the bead making process when Kellene asks attendees to pick
colors of glass rods, that she will make into beads and will be raffled for free
at the end of the demo. Must be present to win. She will also have beads sets
and finished beaded jewelry for sale.
About Kellene Richetts-Nguyen

Kellene has been a bead maker for 8 years. Her beads and finished jewelry have
been in several juried shows and for sale in various boutiques throughout
Escondido and LA.
"Since I was 11 years old when I bought my first blown glass vessel, I have been
in love with glass art and the process it takes to make it."
" I learned how to make beads on a minor burner torch using Muretti ( soft )
glass. After 2 years of working in glass studios, I decided to invest in my own
set up at home. However, a two fuel system was not feasible, so I went with the
hothead torch ( map gas), and small Aims kiln for annealing. I thought that my
hothead torch would be a temporary thing, but I fell in love with it, and make
some pretty cool beads. The hothead torch is very Dichroic glass friendly and I
have made some awesome dichro beads using this torch."

The Art of
Mud
(aka Clay): with David Hudgins

About David Hudgins
Like many, David's initial experience in clay started on
the wheel and free-form. It wasn't until the late 90's, early 00's, when he
began to navigate towards three-dimensional clay mediums. After his diagnosis
with Multiple Sclerosis he and his wife moved to San Diego, California to focus
on his health and artwork in 2001. David now shares his vision in relief
formats; in single and multiple clay sets. Each is under glazed, then
hand-painted; his attention to detail is beautiful.
The artwork titled "My 1st Birthday" was his very first entry into an
international ceramic competition. He was awarded an Honorable Mention from over
2,400 participants from across the world; International Ceramic Biennale 2005
Korea Competition. He creates these relieves from personal snapshots,
commissioned ideas, nature, and/or simple creative brainstorms.
In 2009 David collaborated with a few other potters and helped establish the
Clay Artists at the Vineyard (San Diego, CA). Here he is devoted to offering a
6-week hand-building course to those interested in learning a variety of forms
in basic hand-building.
David has a B.F.A. in Ceramics from Wayne State University (Detroit, MI) and is
an advocate for professional development. When time permits you'll find him
taking a class. While living in Detroit, Michigan he attended sessions at the
Pewabic Pottery. You'll find him next at Palomar College in San Marcos,
California.

In 2002 Olga opened Blue Mug Coffee and Tea, which quickly became a local favorite choice for coffee and an Escondido landmark. Olga's
passion and love for Escondido is evident in the inviting atmosphere of the Blue Mug, which has become a place for members of the community to gather to debate politics, exchange information and view vibrant local art. The Blue Mug has added character to the business district of
downtown Escondido and has made such a positive impact on the
community that Olga opened a second Blue Mug in 2007.
